Shop owner survives like his cat
A black cat who survived 45 days in a shipping container
sat watch over the New York shop whose owner
survived two gunshots to the chest. Police were searching
for a suspect shown in surveillance videotapes.
The man bought a beer at a shop across the street from
Farshad Eshghi's Tasti-D-Lite candy store -- before
entering the candy store and firing two shots. The
52-year-old Iranian immigrant was in serious condition at
Bellevue Hospital, the New York Daily News reported. The
suspect was seen running down the street with a stuffed
dog from the shop, the New York Post reported. Eshghi's
cat, Isis, then sat guard over the empty shop. Eshghi had
earlier credited the cat for bringing him the good luck
of buying the business and a house. A rug merchant friend
gave Eshghi the black feline, who survived 45 days in a
shipping container sent to the United States from Iran.
